Anthracite selected as natural, hard and clean; as a single or double layer; It is used as a purification media in filtration units for all kinds of water sources (such as drinking water, waste water and swimming pool water).
Anthracite coal, which started to be used as a filtration mineral at the beginning of the 20th century, is produced in suitable size, uniform coefficient and hardness by passing through various stages. Due to its angled shape, less backwashing is required compared to filter sand. The backwash flow rate is therefore lower.
Due to its very low density, it acts as the top layer of multi-layer filters.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Color: Black
Density: 50 lbs/ft3
Diameter : 0.6 – 2mm
Uniform Coefficient : less than 1.7
Mesh Size: Varies from 14 x 30 to 4 x 12.
Specific Weight: 1.6 gr/cm3
APPLICATION CONDITIONS
- Bed height should be 60 cm – 76 cm (single media filter), 25 – 46 cm (multi-media filters). Service flow rate may be 5 gpm/ft2 or higher depending on local conditions, backwash flow rate is 12 – 25 gpm/ft2 in anthracite number 1 and 1.5, and air backwash option should also be added in anthracite number 2.
SCOPE OF APPLICATION
- Filtration systems (for suspended solids treatment)
- Surface and well waters
- Water with added coagulant
- Active carbon filters, ion exchange systems
- As a pre-treatment to reverse osmosis membranes
- swimming pool waters
- Condensate water (Important: Silica should not be released into the water.)
- wastewater
- Iron oxide-containing (recovered) waters.
